After a loud bang and dramatic 'flash' my Bosch SDS drill stopped working...

Replacing a suppression filter in a BOSCH drill

I had owned my BOSCH GBH2000 SDS drill for a while (it's a Millennium edition so from the last century!) but it hasn't had a particularly hard life as it's just been used for DIY over the years.

While using the SDS chisel recently there was a dramatic bang and a flash before it stopped working.

I looked took the drill apart to find a small black plastic component attached to the switch in the handle had split - I found this was a suppression filter.

The part number of the filter is 1617328026, it looks like this fits a number of BOSCH tools not just the DFR/GBH range of SDS drills.
i.e. GBH 2-24 DSR

I looked on eBay, Amazon etc. but this part doesn't seem easy to find in the UK. I was surprised to find that it was cheaper to buy the genuine part direct from BOSCH.

EBAY: UPDATE June 2017
I notice that there are EBAY sellers in the UK now stocking this Bosch filter which is good. But it looks like it could still be a better deal getting the genuine part direct from Bosch like I did.

Here's a link to their online spares shop:

Filling replacement BOSCH suppression filter to SDS drill
This job was fairly straightforward but a bit fiddly as things are packed so tight within the drill body.
The suppressor has a long copper earth wire that is a push fit into the depths of the drill - the copper has a bend in it which acts like a spring to keep it in place. You only need to remove the cover around the handle and switch to gain access as shown in the photos.

So for less than £10 my drill is running normally again - a similar replacement would have been the best part of £200.
