If you have dual screens on
your Windows PC (XP or Vista) you may have tried viewing TV in 'full screen
mode' on
the second monitor using BBC iPlayer while you get on with some
'work' on your other monitor.
NOTE:
Since writing this Flash has improved and you can watch full screen -
but these tips can still be useful if you want to increase the picture
size but not always go to full-screen.
Unfortunately as soon as you start using the PC - click the mouse or type, iPlayer
will exit full-screen mode returning to it's normal viewing size! The BBC
iPlayer streams TV using FLV (FLV: Flash Video / using Adobe Flash Player)
so the problems isn't really an iPlayer one. Trying to view any FLV video
will cause the same issue. Zoom feature
A useful get-a-round is to use the 'zoom' feature of Internet
Explorer or FireFox. The latest versions of both of these
browsers let you change the zoom percentage to magnify the whole browser
view, including the video.
I find that setting the zoom between 180 and 200%, use the scroll bars to
centralise the video and then key F11 (IE & FF) to enter full-screen
mode (for the browser not iPlayer) works well.
The video quality is good and I can use the other screen in my dual
monitor set up with no problems why the TV video plays at a comfortable
size.
Browser 'zooming' keyboard
shortcuts (IE, FF, Chrome)
Use the CTRL and + key in both IE,
Firefox (FF) and Google's Chrome to zoom the browser
window in controlled steps.
CTRL and - keys to reduce the zoom level.
CTRL and 0 will reset the zoom level to
100%
F11 will remove the browser toolbars etc. by putting the browser in
to full screen mode.
