Not sure if twitter is something I need to have but thought I would check things out.  <<Since writing that a few months years ago I can say that I've been enjoying Twitter and find it both useful and fun!

PROFILE WIDGET
The twitter traffic to the left is displayed using
twitter's profile widget.
The widget is based on JavaScript and can be customised - background colours, size - width & height, etc.
Use the above link to visit Twitter's widget page.

If you are using a website builder, blog or CMS that doesn't allow JavaScript to be used then you can use twitter's Flash based version.

Search Widget (JavaScript)

The twitter widget on the left is a twitter search widget.

It's setup to search for any mentions of my favourite ISP and Domain Host Freeola!

Very simple to setup just another cut-and-paste job from twitter's website widgets.
